SCHERTZ, Texas - Three people were killed in an accident on Interstate 35 in Schertz Monday morning.

The accident happened around 3:00 a.m. Monday on Interstate 35 near Schwab Road. Witnesses told officers a woman driving southbound in the northbound lanes hit a Dodge Durango carrying a family of five.

City of Schertz spokesperson Brad Bailey said the driver of a tanker truck in the northbound lanes went around the original accident but ended up hitting the wrong way driver and two people who were trying to help the crash victims. The wrong way driver, Katheryn Habard, and the two good Samaritans, tour bus driver Hector Cordova from Laredo and rest stop attendant Emma Alcudia from New Braunfels, were killed.

Bailey said five people in the Dodge Durango suffered minor injuries.

Investigators are trying to determine if alcohol played a role in the accident.

Seems today Express-News says the fire chief said she smelled of alcohol... right before the big rig plowed into them. That's a shocker, nearly daily, here in Soused Antonio - The drunkest city behind the wheel. Where your death at the hands of a DWI driver maybe looms around the next corner. Sheesh!

I have traveled this stretch of road for twenty years on the way to New Braunfels to San Antonio, and back, through the time when it was under construction, in rain, sleet, and snow on those few incidents. I find it hard to believe how anyone can get onto an Interstate Highway, much less any highway going the wrong way unless you are severly intoxicated, or medically impaired. The driver of the tanker should have been paying better attention. He is a licensed professional driver, and should not have been outdriving his headlights. The trucking companies insurance carrier is going to take it in the shorts on this one.

Just saw this news at 11:00pm because of the Olympics. At 5 I saw the ksat 12 news. Ksat told us the names of the guy in the bus that was killed. Woai says that the names were not released as of 11 pm. Seems like ksat is about 5 hours faster. Also the Ksat had lots better video.

@speedy33 If you read the article it was the tanker truck that killed the 2 good samaritans.

Really Warrior? TXDOT's fault? Did TXDOT shove the alcohol down the driver's stomach and bloodstream? Are we really that stupid that we need someone to tell us NOT to drive on the wrong side of the road? Maybe it was the car's fault? Or the murderer's parents fault? Why is it so hard for us to blame the person directly responsible? Also this was NOT an accident. This was completely preventable. Accidents are not.

@WARRIOR666, hitting refresh will do that. Forget hitting it to see if your post is there. Go down to the bottom of the page and click on "your comments" and most often you will see then that it posted, although sometimes it could take a minute or two. Just be patient and stay away from the refresh "button" after posting!!!!

i just watched on the 530 news where yall are blaming the truckers for accidents on the highways and want to get them off the highways i have to say there are more safe truck drivers out there than there is motorist i comment often from here to dallas and back and there are so many unsafe motorist just between here and there its unreal if the motorist would learn to driver safer and be patient with others on the roads and stay off the phone our highway would be much safer and the fatal accidents would decrease lots so dont blame the truckers for the accidents not all is their faults. i say there should be a highway built just for the truckers and then everyone would see its not them its the motorist and probably those motorist that complain and blame the truckers
