SAN ANTONIO -- Police have made a third arrest in connection with the death of a 5-year-old boy.
Josiah Williams was found unresponsive with "suspicious injuries" at a home on Gayle Avenue on the Southeast Side on December 27th. Williams' father, 25-year-old Charelston Williams, and his stepmother, 27-year-old Crystal Williams, were arrested the next day.
Thursday night, police arrested Crystal Williams' mother, 48-year-old Gloria Proo. According to investigators, Proo referred to herself as Josiah's grandmother. They say she spent hours and even days alone with the boy in a caregiver and parental role and, at times, "assumed a lead role in the discipline" of him. In a statement to reporters, an official said Proo allowed the child to live in conditions that lacked proper nourishment and participated in a "pattern of physical assaults that went above any reasonable standards of discipline."
Proo has been charged with injury to a child.
