SEGUIN, Texas - A Seguin teenager is in critical condition after being beaten by a baseball bat in a random attack.

Manuel Joe Sandoval, 18, has been arrested for the attack.

Moses Sandoval, not related to Manuel, had been outside talking with a friend Sunday night when he exchanged words with Manuel which police say set him off. Investigators say Moses was at the wrong place at the wrong time because Manuel was in a rage after being in a fight at another location.

An anonymous tip led police to Manuel who has been arrested for injury to a child causing serious bodily injury.

This is little comfort for the boy’s mother who says her son suffered massive head trauma. The teen is heavily sedated and in critical condition in an Austin hospital.

Emily Sandoval said, "His head was fractured and all his face the part that carries the eye is fractured.  I want justice and hope that this never happens to any other mom."

Another young man who was with the suspect at the time of the beating has not been charged.

@Coyote as usual you can comprehend what you read. I blame the parents not the victim, numbnuts. I support responsible PARENTING...get it!

Blaming the victim is what people that support criminal activities and lack intelligence are programmed to do. Superspurs supports the criminal that lost a fight somewhere else and took it out on a child by smashing his head and face with a baseball bat. sad really sad

This could have been avoided had he been in bed at 12:30am on a school night.

I, like WowLook, agree with her/him. I read the news story first, then I happened to see his mother on late news. She was very brave to talk to speak to reporters the day after the incident. Also, I would have been in charge of being sure he was in bed at 12:30 a.m. This was a brutal beating he received! God be with him.

If the man with the suspect didn't help stop the guy then he needs to be charged as well!

I feel sorry for the kid, but what parent would allow their kid to be outside at that late hour, when they have school the next day? IMO, lack of parental control attributed to this confrontation.

SAMMC is a better hospital for treating head trauma . . . and Austin is further away from Seguin than is San Antonio. Wonder how such a seriously injured person is shipped to Austin rather than San Antonio.
