SAN ANTONIO -- Two schools on the Northwest Side were placed on lockdown for a short time Thursday after someone reported seeing a teenager with a gun nearby.
Deputies were called to the 10,000 block of Shaenfield Road around 12:30 p.m. Thursday after a receptionist at a doctors office spotted someone standing outside a nearby school holding a rifle. When a deputy arrived, the woman who made the call had apparently left. The deputy was able to piece together what happened after speaking to several other people in the area.
The deputy determined a teen with a rifle was seen getting into a car near a school and obtained a description of the car. As a precaution, the deputy had Northside Independent School District place two nearby schools, Ward Elementary and Jefferson Middle School, under lockdown.
A short time later, deputies in the area found the car with the teen inside and discovered the gun was an air rifle. The 18-year-old kid told them he was standing outside near the school with the air rifle because he was waiting for his ride. The deputies determined the teen was not a threat and let him go.
