SAN ANTONIO -- Officials say a suspicious device found in a neighborhood north of Downtown was just a hoax.

The device was discovered around 1:00 p.m. Friday near West Gramercy and Howard Street in Monte Vista. News 4 WOAI was told a woman looking for her cat in the alley between West Gramercy and West Elsmere Place came across a device the size of a shoe box that looked suspicious. Homes in the 200 block of West Gramercy and the 200 block of West Elsmere Place have been evacuated as a precaution.

The bomb squad was called to the scene to check out the device and determined it was not a bomb and was not dangerous.
