SAN ANTONIO -- A suspected drunk driver crashed into the back of a San Antonio Police Department patrol car early Friday.

The accident happened around 3:30 a.m. Friday on the Interstate 10 frontage road between Huebner and Woodstone. Investigators say the officer was sitting in his patrol car checking out another accident, when his car was rear-ended.

The man who allegedly hit him will be charged with driving while intoxicated.

The officer is being treated for minor injuries at a Downtown hospital.

This shoud be a really wake up call to Chief Mac. DD is a huge problem here. The numbers are not declining and it's only after something happens that people get all outraged. Take the school busses that drop the kids off at the wrong schools during the day and shuttle the drunks home from the bars at night....

Wasn't there another incident several weeks ago where a drunk rammed a police car? I mean, what are the odds?

If the police start to pull you over at night on a busy road, keep going until you can pull in to some place safe. Don't let them get you killed.

TOY LADY - I think it's really that the accidents involving SAPD are more publicized than others. Every single day there are incidents involving alcohol and other substances but not every one can be reported. Sad commentary on a city.

Maybe the police offier had his blinking lights on, and this drunk saw "the pretty flashing lights" and zeroed in on them. Just sayin. :^)

With the Drunks, far outnumbering the Police, maybe, the police need to stay off the roads after 2am for their own protection? Just Sayin...

It's terrible that there was an accident at all and it should have never happened, but how STUPID is this person to drink, drive and then of all the people in this extremely large city, this drunk hits....a police car? Very ironic. I'm wondering....do drunks automatically hone in on police cars because they are drawn to the one thing they are trying to avoid? Or do San Antonio police cars contain some crazy magnet to attract other cars to it since they are always in accidents (and not because of a police chase). I hope that everyone involved recovers very quickly. The accident could have been a lot worse.
