SAN ANTONIO - A San Antonio teenager is arrested after plotting an attack at his high school. San Antonio police arrested the 16 year old after he bragged on an online gaming system about his plan to shoot students at Marshall High School.
The Marshall High School student was playing XBOX 360 Live, a gaming system that allows players to talk live with other players from across the world. San Antonio police say the teen was telling a stranger in Canada details about how he planned to shoot a pregnant girl at school and shoot his best friend in the face.
News 4 WOAI obtained a copy of the police report which details what the teen said about his plot against the school. The report states that he planned to get the guns from a Marine Corps friend, and that he thought out tactical details like how long he would have before S.W.A.T. officers arrived. The police report also states the reason the student wanted to attack the school was to "make the headlines so that people would remember him forever".
Police say a Canadian man who was playing the game with the Marshall High School student became so alarmed by what the teenager was saying that he contacted Canadian authorities and reported it to them.
“He was on a gaming system where you're able to chat while playing the game. During this time, there was a group of individuals playing a game with our reporting person and he told police they were planning to shoot up a local high school. Those individuals were going into depth about their plan. The Canadian Mounted Police turned the investigation over to SAPD," said Officer Matt Porter, spokesman for San Antonio Police Department.
News 4 WOAI contacted Northside Independent School District officials and they tell us San Antonio police notified Marshall High School administration. SAPD officers met with both the principal and the student before arresting the teen. School officials say during that meeting, the boy said what he did was “a stupid mistake”. School officials also tell News 4 WOAI that they believe the boy is “remorseful” and that there was “no serious threat”. The student has been suspended from the school indefinitely.
Police say the teenager was arrested and processed at Bexar County Juvenile Detention Center. He will be charged with false alarm or report, which is typically a misdemeanor. However, when a school is involved, then the charge is upgraded. Police say this Marshall High School student is now facing a state jail felony.
