SAN ANTONIO - News 4 has learned a San Antonio Police officer, who worked off-duty security at a north side church, is under investigation for what's being called an "inappropriate act."

That officer had worked at Cornerstone Church, which has 20,000 members and is one of the largest churches in the city.  Law enforcement directs traffic on busy weekends and  helps get members to and from service. However, the church recently fired an officer and the church released this statement through a spokesman:

"In late January, Cornerstone Church was informed by the San Antonio Police Department that one of their officers was under investigation for an inappropriate act. This officer had provided periodic traffic and security services on a contract basis for the church. Upon learning of the investigation, Cornerstone immediately terminated the officer's contract."

The spokesman could not say if the act involved a church member or if it happened on church property.  He deferred all questions about the investigation to San Antonio Police.  Police would not talk to News 4 on Tuesday but instead released a statement:

"There was an allegation made against a San Antonio Police Officer. The allegation is being vigorously investigated and the officer is currently on administrative duty pending the outcome of the investigation."

Police would not provide any more details about the allegation. A source tells News 4 there's a lot more to this story, so check back for future developments. Police say the criminal and internal investigations are ongoing.

My sister said that it was because he fondled one of the young women crossing the street, and she started screaming in consternation and he responded by slapping her across the face, not once, but three times, in anger. I am very pleased that he was fired for this offensive act, and I hope in the future that the Church makes an effort to stop hiring police officers that are trying to molest innocent children. The violence is another issue and I can only pray that it will be addressed by the courts. It is entirely wrong to slap a young woman around because she tried to twist away while some police officer was trying to feel her up. In fact, it is my opinion that this officer, should his name revealed, and I doubt seriously if it was a woman, but consider it a possibility, should be crucified as an example for future child molesters.

But obviously they can be specific on the nature of the "inappropriate act". The pusilanimous reporters are the ones who should be digging for the info. If there's no complete info, hold the piece until you get it. There was a time when reporters where some kind of private investigators. Now they are just adds salesmen that write whatever the sources tell them, usually on the phone or e-mail.

@BACK and Watch, they cannot reveal names until an arrest is made....some sort of privacy act.

Interesting that most people will assume the officer is male. That's how I first read it, too. But the writer and those involved in preparing statements were careful not to reveal gender.

No name or specifics, they protect their own and he for sure is white. They aren't going to tell the public anything.
