SANGER, Texas (NBC News Channel) -- Country singer Randy Travis was arrested Monday morning in Sanger, Texas on suspicion of public intoxication.

Travis, who has a ranch in nearby Tioga, was spotted in front of the First Baptist Church in Sanger with an open bottle of wine, police said.

"A report of a suspicious vehicle was called in to Sanger police. Police go to investigate and find him smelling like alcohol and [he] had an open bottle of wine," said Tom Reedy, with the Denton County Sheriff's Department.

Reedy said Sanger officers took him to Denton where he was booked into the county jail at 1:30 a.m. Monday and released a few hours later.

"They take you to jail for at least four hours, time to sober up," Reedy explained about the Class C misdemeanor for which Travis was cited.

Travis collapsed last September during a performance at the Huguley Memorial Center's 18th annual Crystal Heart Gala.  According to the Burleson Star, the singer was in the middle of singing his hit "Three Wooden Crosses" when he stopped and said something about his vocal cords giving out.

He then reportedly tried to join in again but stopped, stumbled and "pitched forward" onto the front of the stage, witnesses said. Travis later walked off stage while giving a thumbs up.  His publicist said dehydration and over-the-counter allergy medications contributed to his collapse last year.

What makes Randy Travis any different from any other human on the face of this earth? He enjoys his drinks just as much as the next man. At least he was not driving. The scum of the earth gets drunk in San Antonio everyday and they don't get their pictures plastered all over the news.

One more point, Dodie. We will all face God on Judgement Day, and HIS judgement and decision is the only one of consequence. Have you ever asked yourself how God feels about the judgements you make in His name? Aren't those His to make and not yours? We should all strive to live a good, Christian life, in service to our Lord. But, it is NOT our right to judge those we believe to be sinners against our Lord. We're all sinners.

Dodie!!!! Sorry, but I MUST take you to task on this one. Every one of us sinners, including you, have our moments of failure, and this appears to be one of Randy's. This man has a good, God loving, God fearing soul. Whatever his problems were this night are not ours to judge. That's between him and God, whom Randy Travis holds in his heart. (Cory: Nothing was mentioned about Randy driving or even attempting to dive while drunk.) We have no idea of the story behind whatever problems were eating at Randy this night, and it's truly NONE OF OUR BUSINESS. Our business is to pray for him, pray that he find the help and emotional relief he obviously needs, pray for his forgiveness, and PRAY FOR EACH OF OUR OWN FORGIVENESS for our own faults and failures..including yours.
