SAN ANTONIO - "The Rattler" is going to a theme park in the sky.

Six Flags Fiesta Texas has decided to retire the wooden roller coaster. The ride has been in service since the park opened in 1992, but like all good things, it must come to an end. The summer of 2012 will be its last and a farewell ride is already on the calendar.

Riders can experience the drops for the last time on August 5th.

I loved the Rattler, people on here say you leave it all bruised, thats not true. I rode it a few times in a row on one of my visits and didn't have one bruise or the slightest headache. The one ride I rode that really knocked me around was in Astroworld in Houston. The Taz Texas Tornado. The ride really knocked me around, and it a steel coaster. I got off that ride with a huge headache, sore neck and back. Not just me either, my dad was the same way. We had to rest for a bit before continuing walking around the park. The Rattler is no way rough in my opinion. It was one of my favorite rides and I am saddened to see it be going.

The Rattler is being replaced by a New Aged steel and wooden coaster just like the New Texas Giant at Six Flags Over Texas. The same company already contracted with Fiesta Texas to build the new ride. Rocky Mountain Construction company its on their website.

I am a rollercoaster junkie and have ridden some of the best wooden coasters at Cedar Point in OH. The Rattler, at least to me, is a poorly constructed coaster. As some have said, you exit that ride bruised and battered. When I rode it for the first time we got stranded for about 20 minutes in the sun on a 100 degree day. I for one am not sad to see that thing go. Maybe they will build a better coaster now.

that was the attempt to bring back the "wooden" rollarcoasters...i wonder if the maintenance on it has just gotten too much and it's time?

I never cared to get bruised and battered on an amusement park ride. Steel coasters are much better.

Ah, good times and slight concussions to remember. That is a rough ride, but it was fun. It will be missed by some. Wonder what they will build in its stead.

The Six Flags Fiesta Texas website seems to indicate that the Rattler is going away (matches WOAI's story). Nothing is mentioned about an attempt to "retrack" it.

Nice reporting, they are not retiring the rattler. They are going to retrack it and bring it back better than before.
