SAN ANTONIO -- The San Antonio Police Department, CPS Energy, and San Antonio Water System need your help to catch some burglars they say are preying on elderly residents in the San Antonio area.
Approximately 20 homeowners from 75 to 95 years of age have been victimized since October of 2011. Most of the burglaries have happened on the North Side and Northwest Side, but several have occurred in other areas of San Antonio.
Investigators say one suspect comes to the front door and impersonates a CPS Energy, SAWS or City of San Antonio Inspector. That suspect then lures the resident into the backyard to talk about doing work in the area and works to keep the resident out of the house for several minutes. During that time, a second person goes inside and ransacks the house, stealing jewelry, cash, and other valuable items. It's believed the burglars may communicate with portable radios.
Investigators say the men wear different hats or shirts in order to falsely represent themselves as employees of the different companies.
The suspects have been described as:
- SP1: Hispanic Male, 40-50 years of age, graying hair, 180-200 lbs
- SP2: White or Hispanic Male, 35-45 years of age
- SP3: White or Hispanic Male, 30-35 years of age, Bald
The suspects' vehicles have been described as:
- Suspect vehicle: White Ford Explorer (SUV) with a ladder on the top
- Suspect vehicle: Tan or light colored truck
- Suspect vehicle: Unknown Sliver or light-colored van, looked to be an older model
