when I was young and dumb leaving the Copper Dollar on Perrin-Beitel/410, I had a few drinks and drove into a checkpoint on Nacodoches Rd. I was so scared that I was going to jail that from then on I stopped taking that chance. So there's a good chance that checkpoint experience may have saved me from making dumb choices at a dumb age.

I agree we have to do something about drunk driving but I just don't this is it. If they are permanent checkpoints it will take about a week for people to figure out where they are and avoid those areas. Even if they move the checkpoints from week to week, with social media and texting the word will get out quickly. What we end up with is a traffic nightmare that hasn't helped. I think the penalties need to be more consistent from judge to judge. Make it mandatory to take away the driver's license for at least a year, increase the fines and probation time.

yeah, i'm thumbing thru the constitution and bill of rights, and uhm nothing here that says driving is a "right". besides, when the constitution was written there weren't too many stories of drunks on horses going the wrong way and killing people.

well if idiots would just obey the laws in the first place, extremes could be prevented. tell your fellow idiot alcoholics to stop drinking and driving and putting the rest of us in danger. i mean, it's pretty simple folks. sadly, it's too hard for most people in this drunk a** town to be smart

Sure lets throw out the Constitution. Let get rid of the 2nd, 4th and 5th amendments. I mean we already have a good start with the "no right of refusal" and the restrictive Federal laws on gun ownership.
