SAN ANTONIO -- Police got to a man in time after he called me and said he was going to jump from a bridge. This happened Saturday around the noon hour along the 410 and 281 interchange. As a result the 281 north and southbound ramps were shut down as well as the down ramp on 410 eastbound at San Pedro.

This is a man that I had spoken to before and who had made headlines regarding sexual allegations against him. He called me Saturday morning saying his legal troubles were too much to handle around the holidays so he was going to end his life today.

“We did receive information that this individual called one of the news agencies threatening suicide,” explained Officer Matt Porter, spokesperson for the San Antonio Police Department.

I spoke to the 27- year old man for about 15 minutes shortly before noon. He told me he was tired of dealing with the accusations against him and because he was on house arrest he could not drive to Dallas to see his children for the Thanksgiving holiday. It was all too depressing for him and he said he could no longer go on.

According to Officer Porter, “As long as the individual is talking to us, he's not jumping, he's not hurting himself and that's what we want”.

As we continued to talk, the 27- year old shared his location and vehicle description. During my conversation I passed this information along to police.

“Officers received a call for a stalled vehicle,” said Porter. “When they responded to that they realized that the individual had gotten out of the vehicle and was threatening to jump from the bridge”.

Officer Porter said that's when they put two and two together and they knew who the man was and why he wanted to jump.

Porter explained, “At that point officers began dialogue with the individual. They talked to him for approximately 45 minutes before they got him into custody”.

The man had shared with me in the past as well as on Saturday that he was under a doctor's care for depression and anxiety. He is safe now and has been taken to an area hospital to receive the proper care that he needs.

I have not followed this story. If he is accused of a serious crime against children, Why was he on house arrest and not in jail? It seems it wasn't really his intention to jump given his contacting the reporter, giving specifics of his vehicle and so on,and the amount of time involved. If he is innocent I feel bad for what he is going through, if he is guilty, I would have preferred he jump.

If he's a pedophile, go ahead and jump. If he's been falsely accused, then sue the accuser. Chances are, he's quilty if he's willing to commit suicide.

Suicide never solves your problems. It is a permanent solution to a temporary problem. If these allegations happen to be true then I am sorry but that is the importance behind thinking before we speak or act.
