SAN ANTONIO- Investigators are asking for the public's help to identify a woman found dead along the banks of the San Antonio River inside the Espada National Park. The body was discovered by a woman and her children Sunday afternoon, shortly before 2 PM along Mission Reach.
Police believe the woman was in her early 20's, and had been dead for at least two to three days.
One man who frequently walks that area said he just can't understand why no one found the body sooner.
Allan Boldt, a passerby explained,” People all day from any time of day are walking up and down these sidewalks even though they are not officially open and the Zachary people are working. They have trucks running in and out of here all day long”.
Boldt had just arrived at Espada Park for his daily walk when he came across flashing ambulance lights, police cars and fire trucks this afternoon. He soon learned from police a woman's body had been discovered.
Detective Ricky Lopez with the San Antonio Police Department said, “ this current area has not been open to the public so right now there is really no way to tell if the victim fell in here or some other location”.
Meantime, Boldt was more surprised to hear police estimated the body to have been in the river for at least two to three days. He added that just yesterday he was walking along the same path with others around as well, including a construction crew working on the river expansion project.
Police are not saying at this point if the woman suffered trauma. They are also not giving out a description of her hair color and other features, or what she may have been wearing. Investigators are hoping to identify the woman within the next 24 hours.
They’re asking anyone with information on a missing woman to call the San Antonio Police Department.
