SAN ANTONIO -- Police say the driver of the truck that hit and killed a homeless man Tuesday has come forward.
A witness said he saw a truck turn left out of the HEB parking lot and head south on Walzem Road, near Montgomery, around 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. The truck then hit the victim, who was crossing the street without a crosswalk. The unidentified man died at the scene. Police said he is a Hispanic man in his 60s.
Witnesses and police said the truck stopped after the accident. A passenger got out of the truck, checked out the victim, and then got back into the truck and left with the driver.
News 4 WOAI was told Wednesday morning the driver contacted them overnight to say he was responsible for the accident. Police say they spent the night talking to that alleged driver. It's not known at this time if the driver will face any charges.
