SAN ANTONIO -- A man who shot three people outside a northeast side dance hall, killing one of them, will not be charged.

The shooting happened around 2:45 a.m. Thursday morning at Cowboys Dance hall at Loop 410 and Interstate 35.

Police say the shooter , Lance Groves will not face charges. The police report stated Groves would not be charged with any crime, and that the shooting victims were actually suspects for a possible assault.

Groves told police, "I felt that my life was in danger, and I felt that I was acting in self defense, ".  Groves went on to say .

According to the report Groves told investigators one of the men grabbed him by his neck, pulled him out of his truck, and tried to hit him.

The names of the three men Groves shot are not being released at this time. The two who survived the shooting are still in the hospital.

Once released, the men may face charges for assault.

Warhorse, its the castle doctrine that allows you to keep your weapon in your vehicle. It makes your vehicle an extention of your home. They teach you that when you take your CHL class. And even if he was going to get his weapon to "escalate" it, an easy fix would have been for the 3 not to follow him. I mean what could they have possibly been doing that they needed to pull him out by his neck? Give him his wallet back? I doubt it. Trying to forcibly remove a person from his or her vehicle or home justifies the use of deadly force if Texas. And it sucks that he's a soldier, but let's be honest. Just because we're military doesn't mean we aren't capable of getting heated under the collar and doing stupid stuff when we've been drinking.

let me know, thank you for catching that. It was a typo, there was supposed to be a not before the trying. Looking at the context of my post, which is contradicting the post of Tired in Texas, the the typo becomes quite clear. Unfortunately this site offers no way to edit posts once they are submitted. I had noticed the typo about 2 hours after submitting the comment..

Actually Tired in Texas, I do know the law. The law that allows you to carry in your car is called the Motorist Protection Act. The castle doctrine simply allows you to not have to retreat in a situation in which your life is threatened. My point about him not carrying on his person that night was meant to highlight the fact that most likely the shooter went to his truck with the sole purpose of retrieving his gun an escalating the situation. So maybe you should learn the law before you spout ignorant BS onto the internet. I am trying to act like a cop or judge, if you read my post I was saying that a grand jury should decide whether to charge the shooter after BOTH sides have been viewed, not a few cops with only one side of the story.

warhorseGR QC How can you have a CHL i you don't know the law??? If you are legal to own a gun in Texas you can carry in your home, car, workplace to and from said locations with out a CHL its called the castle doctrine. and the gun was in his car he did not carry into the bar according to the story. you should learn the law before you act like a cop, judge self proclaimed CHL holder.
