SAN ANTONIO - One popular drug store chain needs your help catching a crook who's hit their stores all over town. His actions could mean higher prices for you at the register!

The perfume thief has hit eight different Walgreens, including one this past Saturday night. He's stolen nearly $10,000 worth of perfume.

The News 4 WOAI Trouble Shooters got a hold of security video from one of the stores. In it, you can actually see one of San Antonio's most wanted shoplifters in action. Cameras catch him quickly popping the lock, or breaking the glass, on the perfume case. Then the thief starts cramming hundreds of dollars worth of perfume bottles into his pants.

"Everyone is losing money," Jose Valle, Walgreens store manager, told us. "These individuals know what they're doing. They're very skilled."

As the News 4 WOAI Trouble Shooters first showed you Monday, Walgreens isn't the only store being targeted. San Antonio Police have gone undercover to catch people trying to buy and re-sell stolen items. Captain John Saucedo explained that stores have to make up their losses by charging you more for what you buy.

"The rest of the community pays. If you think that the shoplifting doesn't effect you, it certainly does. I mean you feel it in the pocketbook," Captain Saucedo said.

We wanted to know how much shoplifting could cost you. So the News 4 WOAI Trouble Shooters crunched the numbers and found out of every dollar you spend, about seven cents goes to make up for stolen items.

So take a good look at he man in the security video. In some cases he's struck two or three times in the same week. If you think you recognize him, call Crime Stoppers at 224-STOP. They pay up to $5,000 for information that leads to an arrest, and you don't have to give your name.

Cameras should take videos of cashier at the Walgreen's I frequent. She only comes to her counter when she sees customer waiting to pay. Rest of the time, she is by photo department talking away with another employee. She needs to stay close to cash register, or she is going to lose the gainings for the day, too. Walgreen's does have a lot of expensive perfumes that were once sold at the bigger stores, and retail at almost the same prices, still. Plus their lines of cosmetics are expensive, also.

wow, just wow... That guy popped the lock on that case in like 10 secs flat... Perhaps they should put better locks on the cases that hold the expensive stuff.

I agree with Dcabai, Walgreen's and far too many other stores operate so short-staffed that customer service is at best mediocre. Apparently, this method of saving money is not working if tons of unpaid-for merchandise is walking out the door unnoticed. Recently, I was in a Tetco convenience store waiting in line with about 25 other customers. There was only one employee working himself to death to get the customers on their way. Unfortunately, he was outnumbered by theives who were taking advantage of the store's incompetent staffing practices by blatantly grabbing merchandise and walking out with it. What could the lone employee have done when he was so swamped with customers? Those of us customers who didn't care to be shot or otherwise harmed knew to keep our mouths shut.

When I used to work at Walgreens, I know that whoever was at cosmetics had to stay at their register at all times, and it's to prevent situations like this. Walgreens has been cutting back lately due to the econmomy; manager hours were especially cut down. Walgreens is still an excellent stop before going home but there are a few that have shady and weird customers.

Walgreens need to control this by adding at least one employee to each shift. Every time I go they can't keep up with service. When will they have time for security?
