SAN ANTONIO - A man was killed by police during a shootout inside a Northeast Side hotel room.

The shooting happened at the Days Inn in the 11,200 block of Interstate 35, near Weidner. Police received a call around 1:00 a.m. Friday concerning a woman who was reportedly being threatened by a man. When officers arrived, they were able to get the door to the room partially open to speak to the woman inside. They said the woman appeared to be in distress and motioned for the officers to come inside.

Fearing for the woman's life, the two officers then forced open the door the rest of the way, according to a statement released by the police department. As the officers entered, a man who was inside the room with the woman fired at least one shot at them. Both officers returned fire, shooting and killing the man. The man's name has not been released, but police say he was in his 30s.

The woman and the two officers who returned fire were not hurt.

Both officers have been put on administrative duty during a review of the shooting.
