I hate shots but for over 21 years while on active duty military I had to get a flu shots beside other various shots like anthrax. Didnt have a choice when ordered to do it. I'm still doing ok so getiing a flu shot is not bad.

I am a nurse and have been for 26 years. I have been strongly encouraged by many employers over the years to get the flu shot. Every single time I got the flu shot I came down with a horrible case of the flu a few days later. A nurse friend of mine had the same discussion a couple years ago while we were getting the flu shot ONLY because everyone reccomends it and she said the same thing happened to her too. Sure enough about a week later we BOTH had the flu. Also my teenage daughter last year was offered the flu shot during a regular doctor visit. She NEVER gets sick! I promise you. She got the shot and a week later she got the flu. I won't take the flu shot ever again. I believe from talking to multiple people and.personal experience that it does more harm than good.

I personally am very thankful for the nurses who give their all to the care of their patients. I was in an auto accident several years back as a passenger. A registered off duty was the first responder who jumped right in and saved my life. So I don't like to hear disparaging remarks about nurses. That said for staff nurses refuse to get immunizations that are required by their employer, are free to do that even of it means in the name of patient safety, they lose their jobs. They are always free to seek employment elsewhere. I wish them luck.

The current strain of flu that is causing so many people to miss work etc was not included in this year's flu shot. The flu is a weird little virus that is constantly mutating so flu shots *might* protect you, or, more likely, will only protect you from LAST year's flu strains! The "rule" that this hospital has put into place is a foolish reactionary policy designed to placate the public .... not protect patients OR staff. We need to be far more informed and sensible about policies that can potentially cause great harm, like forcing vaccinations!

When I was young, as all kids, my siblings and I had to take our immunization shots. We got the first of 3, and all went well. When we got the second, one sister came down with a moderate case of what we'd been vaccinated against the first round. When we got the third one, she then came down with a moderate case of what we got the second vaccination for. Needless to say, there was no other vaccination for her after the 3rd because everybody was afraid she'd come down with smallpox (the 3rd vaccination). She reacted to each vaccination after the first by contracting a moderate form of the previous disease she was vaccinated against. Threw doctors for a loop of confusion back then. And, the one time I got a flu shot, I went through all stages of the flu in 24 hours. Total, horrible memory!!!!

My friend just received a $9 million dollar settlement for nerve damage due to the flu shot that she, as a nurse, was forced into!!! Hope the University of Indiana has *real* deep pockets!

Flu shots, forcing one to guit smoking, HPV vaccine for kids and coming soon genetic screening to determine if you are a public health risk. This is just starting in healthcare. Don't think for a minute that teachers, public workers, daycare and ultimately your everyday employer will be put in this position. Are you willing to give up your right to choose for the public good?

Wonder if this Indian Hospital would have denied request from a Muslim nurse who filed a religious exemption from the flu vacination. I think not. Hope we see a class action law suit coming. Pile on the names. "Hand washing'is the ultimate prevention of spreading germs, virus, bacteria...duh
