MARION, Texas - A criminal investigation has been launched into a possible hate crime at Marion High School. A noose and a racial note were found near the car of an African American student on Monday afternoon.
"I personally saw the letter, and I personally saw the note," said Christine Fennell, the victim's grandmother.
Fennell said her 17-year-old granddaughter has been the target of racial remarks in the past.
"I personally went up to the school myself and talked to the assistant principal and let the staff know they were already saying racial slurs to my granddaughter," added Fennell.
As of 3:00 pm Tuesday afternoon the Marion Police Department advised Marion I.S.D not to make any comments about the case.
"That way nobody else releases any information that may be pertinent to my investigation," said Sgt. Darren Haverstock with the Marion Police Department.
Sgt. Haverstock went on to say he is going through surveillance video and interviewing witnesses.
Fennell wants those responsible to be held accountable.
"I want them prosecuted to the fullest," replied Fennell.
