I say, ANYONE that refuses a breath test, no matter what, should have to pay for their impounded cars, because they force the city to do a blood draw, therefore THEY CHOSE to have their damn cars impounded!!! Damn Drunks SHOULD pay for EVERYTHING they CAUSE.

And if the blood draw is found to be negative does the city refund the impound fee you paid to get your car back and any other expenses you incurred? Didn't think so. The blood draw is for money not safety. You can not have drunk any alcohol, and you get an a***e cop, and there are some, he takes you in and BAMM you have an impound fee.

how are drunks doing it? its not drunks backlogging everything.. its the slow asses at the medical examiners office. they need to get more government dollars to hire more ppl. its their fault for ASSUMING that people where going to take breathalyzer tests.. you know what they say about assuming things..

I think you miss the point, @Stabzz, of why a lab test is better for the innocent than a breathalyzer test. I have personal knowledge of several people who use an inhaler for asthma, and that will show a false positive on a breathalyzer test. Blood draws, however, will tell the truth conclusively. I know that the intent of “no refusal” was NOT to protect the innocent, but how about this? How about if the city uses some of the excess funds from the STUPID “pre-k” tax to send lab tests to contract labs? The ME’s office shouldn’t have to do these at all. Furthermore, I’d like to know what percentage of those blood draws comes back positive for excessive alcohol. That’s the real test of how effective these are. Oh, and here’s an interesting bit of information, @Jackhammer. I used to feel as you do but I’ve spoken to cab drivers who REFUSE to haul a drunk around in their cab, because 90% of the time, the drunk is going to puke all over the cab and cost the cabby much more than the fare is worth. It puts the cabbie out of commission for about 24 hours or so, besides the expense of having the cab cleaned. Actually, @Superspurs might be on the right track!

Just execute one drunk driver who kills someone and your problem drops 50%.

If you do go out and drink, GET A CAB!! I know it sucks to get a cab or whatever, pay 30+ dollars but IF you get pulled over your going to wish you got a taxi. Your gonna wish that you paid the 30 40 50 hell even 100 dollars to take a cab home. Go out drink get drunk and play it safe, take a taxi home.

DWI has really become a problem here in San Antonio. And the death fatality is out of control. People don't drink and drive. Stay home get drunk. I want to be safe out there!!!!
