SAN ANTONIO - The nephew of former San Antonio Spurs player Johnny Moore has been arrested and charged with theft after investigators say he stole his uncle's NBA Championship rings.

Moore contacted police on or about August 2nd after he said he discovered his two championship rings and his University of Texas college ring had been stolen from his home. Moore said he made the discovery after he had allowed his nephew, 33-year-old Jason Witherspoon, to stay at the home.

Investigators say they found evidence that Witherspoon sold the college ring at a local pawn shop and the two NBA championship rings at two local jewelry stores. They were able to recover all three of the rings. The rings are valued at nearly $34,000. Investigators say each ring had been pawned for less than $1,000.

Witherspoon is charged with Theft $20,000 to $100,000. He was booked Tuesday and later released on bond.

The rings have been returned to Moore, who had 3,865 assists in nine seasons with the Spurs.

Philly if my child stole from me I would kill them , and my kids know it! I brought them into this world and if they do anything that God or I disapprove of I would take them out, and they know it . P.S. my kids are great

We see wich one was raised right and the thief is obviously never going to be anything other than a thief and low life to bad he was not raised as well with principals like his uncle ,I hate, no despise theives and feel they should pay the value of what they stole even if they have to work on a chain gang to pay back , again the scum sucker should be put in jail to rot in my opinion .

I am so glad Johnny got his rings back! At 33 his nephew is probably a lazy no-good bum, and a habitual thief. I remember Johnny Moore playing on the court; modest, God-loving, honest, and great SPUR. He is an epitome of a great Christian that didn't deserve losing his rings to anyone especially his rotten nephew. God doesn' like UGLY!

It happens more than you think. My son systematically took my jewelry and other things and pawned them. The only difference is he was much younger than the 33 year old that perpetrated this crime.

For sure we know he did not inherit his Uncle's genes. When I first read the headline I thought oh another teenage kid. what a loser at 33.

It's bad enough for a POS like this to take what doesn't belong to them from other people, worse when you take from your own family.

This guy was stupid for stealing them to begin with and what pawn shop would buy these rings and then not immediately report it to police? It's not like random people walk around with championship rings.
