SAN ANTONIO - Neighbors say they're sick of feeling unsafe at home in a northeast side apartment complex. Police say a man shot at an off-duty officer working security at the Spring Hill Apartments last night on Ray Bon, off Eisenhauer Road, and neighbors tell us shootings, fights and other crimes are common.
"It's getting worse. It's getting worse," said a woman who did not want to show her face. "The officer might stand outside but I don't really see them doing anything to improve our community."
San Antonio Police have gotten 85 calls for service in the last month in the Spring Hill I and II apartments. The apartments are owned by the San Antonio Housing Authority but managed by Orion Real Estate Services.
Property supervisor James Tollett said they are looking to hire additional security guards and they are trying to weed out problem residents by making them leave. They also have a new parking permit program, which would allow them to tow cars that don't belong there after dark.
They tried to start a type of neighborhood watch program, but Tollett said they had a hard time getting people involved. He encouraged residents to report suspicious activity to police or management. He said people can remain anonymous.
