SAN ANTONIO-Police say a possible gang initiation may be behind a drive-by shooting on the East Side.

Around 11:30 Friday night, police say someone in a dark-colored suv started shooting at cars and homes on the 1100 block of Hammond.

One of the bullets hit a 38 year old woman in the chest. "It was just so scary, " said neighbor Diane Luis.

Police said the victim was watching TV in her living room when it happened. "The sad thing about when people do that is nothing but innocent people get hurt, " added Luis.

Investigators said the woman was taken to University Hospital where she is in stable condition.

Neighbors say crime is an ongoing problem in the area. "Even in day time you can here gun shots, " said Chris Luis.

Police don't have any suspects in the shooting. "I just hope it never happens again, " added Diane Luis.

Anyone with any information in the shooting can call Crime Stoppers at (210)224-STOP.

Really glad1? In a donut shop? When was the last time you saw a cop in a donut shop. I know quite a few and have never seen one in a donut shop. Guaranteed that the guys that did this have done garbage like this before and the DA let them off. Once they are arrested, they should be put in prison. No more Probation.

Uh, how do you "here" gun fire? Another case of not checking what they type. Again.

Sad the woman couldn't expect to be safe while indoors watching TV. The behavior of the idiot(s) shooting guns around homes is impossible to guard against. I'm pro-gun but having an arsenal wouldn't have protected me from this idiocy. With the progress of polymers and synthetic protectants, I wonder if anyone or any company has developed an affordable form of "skin" that could be applied to the outside of structures that might slow a projectile from penetrating the siding? I'm not saying "bullet proof" our houses, but like Tyvek, just one more protective layer against any penetrations (heat and cold, hail, etc.).
