SAN ANTONIO -- An 11-month old baby is safe with relatives and a murder suspect in custody, nine days after police issued an AMBER Alert.
Police said 23-year-old Jonathan Guillen was arrested in a home in the 200 block of Carmen at 7 p.m. He was in a back bedroom holding his 11-month-old son, Jonathan Guillen Jr., but willingly gave him to a sergeant, police said. The child is in good health and is now with relatives.
Guillen is charged with murder for allegedly shooting his mother's estranged boyfriend, 44-year-old Ernest Garcia on Dec. 13 after police say Garcia punched Guillen's mother in the face. His mother said Guillen took the infant when he left the scene and police issued and AMBER Alert four days later.
"I want to say to my son, I love you, man. I love you with all my heart. I didn't leave you, they took me from you. Don't let nobody tell you different," Guillen said, while being lead to a police car in handcuffs.
A Crime Stoppers tip lead officers to the home on Carmen, where officers believe at least one person was related to him. Police did what's called a "knock and talk," where officers were allowed inside the residence and people inside the home lead officers to Guillen in a back bedroom. Detectives believe he was in San Antonio since the murder. Child Protective Services has put a safety plan together for the child, police said.
