SAN ANTONIO - A motorcyclist was struck and killed by an alleged drunk driver on the North Side early Wednesday.

Police say 40-year-old Gilbert Anthony Chavez on a Harley Davidson motorcycle traveling west on East Nakoma, when a car traveling east on Nakoma veered into the westbound lane and crashed into into him. Chavez was taken to University Hospital in critical condition where he died a short time later.

Officers say the driver of the car, 40-year-old William Joe Rohmer, admitted he had been drinking at the Cocoa Beach bar. Rohmer will be charged with intoxication manslaughter.

Phrilly, the answer is when the government stops making tens of millions of dollars on DWI arrests. DWI is a cash cow for the county. Tens of millions of dollars are brought in every year in fees, fines, as well as the employment of thousands of people in the DWI industry in Bexar County. Look at the big picture and follow the money. If a couple of working stiffs get killed in the process, so be it. Just don't kill a politician, police officer, or a judge or any of their family members.

Why is this POS still out driving? We don't need to let drunks get more than one DUI, they should at least serve time for it. Why do we have to wait until they kill somebody? It should never have to get to this point. We turn our heads and pretend we think they will get help and never do it again. The Chavez family has lost a father and husband because of our inability to put these drunks behind bars. When is the DA and the judges going to get the lead out of their a** and charge these people and put them in jail? Why does it take this sensless act that changes the lives of both families in this horrible business.

a.) That sucks. Drunk driving is out of control in our city. But so is texting and driving and just plain obliviousness behind the wheel. b.) You know full well you have a death wish if you ride a motorcycle in this city.

Why is it that drunks usually get away with murder? Using a knife or gun to kill another human is a crime. Less than 1% of drunks are ever punished for their actions.
