SAN ANTONIO -- A man is in the hospital after crashing his motorcycle into some train tracks on the Southwest Side early Friday.

Police say the rider missed the curve after exiting Loop 410 near Quintana Road just before 1:00 a.m. Friday and then slammed into the tracks.

Investigators are trying to figure out if low lighting in the area played a role in the crash.

Charlie - I was in no way saying all bike riders are idiots. Hell, I'm a bike rider myself! I have however seen a lot of bike riders in this town doing some pretty stupid things.

Not to be critical of your comment "jimkata " But not all bikers are idiots .as ive all-ways said there three elements to a safe ride. speed ,road conditions and operator head space if any of the three are exceeded could be a bad day for the rider. im guessing what happened here was. IF the driver was not impaired by alcohol or some other substance . dude probably hit a wet or greasy spot on the road which are very common at intersections .and couldn't correct for it fast enough to miss the tracks .

How fast was he going when he missed the curve? I've seen quite a few "idiot" bikers doing well over 100mph on that part of the loop... a lot of times riding wheelies...
