CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas -- A Corpus Christi woman has lost custody of her children after spanking her 2-year-old daughter.

Prosecutors said Rosalina Gonzales spanked her child with an open hand and left some red marks. She was charged with felony injury to a child after the child's grandmother complained to police.

Gonzales has to serve five years probation, take parenting classes, and work with Child Protective Services to get her children back.

My children's great-grandmother said, "why do you think the Good Lord put so much padding on their backsides?" I too believe that there is a difference and a fine line between discipline and abuse. But you better believe that my daughther (who is 2) and my son (who is 7) get a spank when they need it, or a "pop" on the mouth when they sass or yell at me. I am a high school teacher, I have seen what happens when kids are allowed to do as they please without consequences!

To: bblver48-If you feel 2 is too young to discipline a child and teach them right from wrong and some morals, than when what age would I be allowed to discipline my child??? Me, I start from the "very beginning" like it is suppose to. That is the BIG problem with the way things are now there is no conscience, consequences, & no morals. No one controls their offsprings anymore so we have children having children, children killing children and become criminals all before the age of 20. KEEP IN MIND THE "IS" A FINE LINE BETWEEN "ABUSE" AND "DISCIPLINE". The judge should be ashamed of him/herself for even letting this case go as far as it did (unless there are other problems in this situation that the news hasn't said).

There is no need to spank a two year kid and leave red marks now that is abusive.

Damn, is it any wonder kids have such bad attitudes these days? There are so many that need a good "adjustment". Society wastes so much money on drug abuse prevention, fighting the graffiti "taggers" and other misguided youth activities. So much of the prevention really does start at home.

The Grandmother needs a spanking for not letting Mom do her job. This screwed up system is why our teens can do anything and everything now. I have been there with one that knew how to play the system. They know they have the upper hand and you can't do anything. All these brats have to do is scream abuse or neglect and you're dead meat. Parents need to parent.

While on one hand I can see both sides of the argument, on the other hand I see instead of losing a few kids because of abuse, now we seem to be losing almost all our kids. It seems that granting so many rights so early, that we are destroying all of them. We tell them that they are all princes and princesses and that they are entitled to everything. That they can do no wrong and are not responsible for anything...until the day they turn 18...then they become toads like the rest of us...and nobody wants to kiss them. They are uneducated, have no work ethic, but still feel entitled. We need to get the government and the law out of our homes. People should mind their own business and pay attention to their own. We should be allowed to raise our own without anyone looking over our shoulders.

It's no rocket science.. Read the poll.. Sometimes the old ways is what we need nowadays.. That's the problem with this country now.. We get this judges wanting to set a new standard, but what they are really doing is screwing up our way of life even more and people like me and you go to jail for something that's past down from generation to generation. Oh but the problem is these people we elect aren't listening to us..

All I can say, this country is going down the s@!% hole, one case at a time.. No wonder society keeps complainting that kids at school aren't listening and misbehaving.. This new way of thinking is brain washing our kids thinking it's o.k. to do bad things.. So don't complaint when the government takes over your life.. better yet your kids way of life in the future..

Nanny-state socialist liberal activist Judge Jose Longoria. "You don't spank children today. In the old days, maybe we got spanked, but there was a different quarrel. You don't spank children." Clear as day, we're not stupid, don't expect us to look the other way.
