SAN ANTONIO -- A 27-year-old man was struck and killed on Loop 410 on the Southeast Side early Friday.

The accident happened around 4:00 a.m. Friday in the northbound lanes of Southeast Loop 410 near Interstate 37. Police said a 19-year-old woman driving a Chevrolet Tahoe had just exited Interstate 37 and was on the entrance ramp to Loop 410 when she spotted a car stopped in one of the main lanes of the highway. She swerved to avoid colliding with the car but then hit a man who was walking on the highway near the vehicle.

Investigators believe the victim got out of his car after it stalled. They said he was wearing black clothing, and since the area does not have any street lights, it would have been very difficult for anyone to see him or his car.

The woman who hit the man will not face any charges.

Would a few lights on 410, even if it IS only the southside too much to ask? Shouldn't Loop 410 get the same quality of lighting in all parts of town?
