And exactly when did "driving" become a "privilege"? Is there something about an internal combustion engine that over-rides perhaps, a horse and buggy? I won't stoop to your level. You can polish a turd all you want, but in the end, it is still a turd. My Sincere Condolences to this Family. That is heart-felt. Walking in the middle of the road with no concern of possible traffic behind him?????? My condolences to the totally ignorant father. Oh wait!, ... never mind.

*Yawn* By your logic a person who's had one beer should be thrown in prison for life if a deer jumps out into the road. It's really terribly sad that this kid died so young, really. But I don't think being sober or not would change the circumstance of suddenly, and unexpectedly, finding someone or something in the middle of the road right in front of your car before you have any time to stop or swerve.

I truly feel for this family, this should have been me back in 1974 but I was lucky. As for the driver, even if he's not charged in the death because of the child's action, this is one case where a life sentence should be placed, not matter what offense it is. Sure, walking in the middle of the road is illegal, but driving while drunk is by far the more serious of the illegal activities. As soon as OUR lawmakers listen to us and make Texas the leader in stopping drunken driving by not accepting any pleas or deal. Driving is not a right, it is a PRIVILEGE and it's, the rules of drinking and driving, is the most advertised and therefore should also be the most enforced. Just how many innocent people need to be injured or killed..Or how many wrong way drivers or single car accidents involving drinking must there be. As an our insurance rates increase, in part because of this problem, when are we, the people that must always pay more and more while these people continue to get stop many times before they finally lose the privilege or worse, kill someone, are we going to finally go to our lawmakers, in Austin, and DEMAND that they rewrite the DWI laws here, in Texas and out these people off the roads on the first time, never again allowed to drive. I think I'll begin this..Who will join me at the beginning of the 2013 session in DEMANDING this change..or let them know this is their last time they'll be our voice..and find someone that will listen.
