KERRVILLE, Texas - Residents and businesses in the Hill Country are experiencing a major communication outage.
News 4 WOAI has confirmed a AT&T fiber line was cut somewhere in Holiday Creek area between Comfort and Boerne, causing outages throughout the Hill Country area. The widespread outage runs from Kerrville to Fredericksburg to Comfort; even people in Blanco are having problems.
The outages are affecting Verizon, Sprint, and AT&T landline, wireless, and internet services, including those used for emergency services.
"We do have some network issues in Kerrville right now. It's affecting 2G voice and data service,” explained AT&T spokesman Mike Barger. “3G is not affected. Not sure what the issue is just yet, but working to repair ASAP.”
The outage started shortly after three Tuesday afternoon and is affecting wireless and landline service in the Hill Country. It is hitting those who are with major carriers.
The outage affects carriers like Verizon, Sprint and AT&T.
Not only are people unable to use thier cell phones or landlines, but right now that means they can't call 911 if they have an emergency. Just shortly before 5pm, some emergency services were restored in Kerrville.
AT&T says so many carriers were cut off at one time because many of them share and lease these fiber lines.
