Local animal shelter at capacity; asking for public's help

AMEN LILLY!!!! But you have to remember we are in San Antonio...a town in which people that actually posses logic are few and far between

Here's a novel idea: Military suicide rates are at a record high, and we need to do something to help our military men and women. Their needs are many, but it's a proven fact that a service animal/pet can provide enormous help and support. How many animals sitting in shelters could be saved and trained to provide for the needs of our military members and help to bring down the suicide rate?

yay luigi! sounds like you guys are really taking your time to find the right fit! even though i'd like to take all of them to keep them all from being euthed, it's not feasible. and if everyone would take the time to really find out if a particular pet is right for them and they bond, the shelters would be a lot less crowded :) Keep us informed, Luigi!

@ lervia: no not yet...it was our second time visiting and we'll go back in a couple days and hopefully find our right match...it's a big decision ya know...as it should be.

of course, if you adopt a pit bull type dog, there is a group here in SA that will spay/neuter for free. I think they are called SpaySA. it's a great program! and you don't have to qualify as far as income! sorry, guest....i realized my post came across a little bit attacking your comment. dogs/cats are not for everyone. those who aren't willing to take the time to train their animals and spend time with them aren't going to have good experiences. good for you for realizing your limitations and settling for a gerbil/fish. i just get tired of people surrendering a responsibility they accepted when it gets a little "tough". is that what you do with your children when things get a little tough? take them to the pound for them to be euthed because you are too damn lazy? (again, not directed at you, guest...)

guest...crate train your dog during the day while you are at work...spend the time to train them. pretty simple. i've done it with multiple dogs. get them some chew toys and teach them what is ok and not ok to chew. pretty simple. just takes a little time and oh...wait for it...RESPONSIBILITY! not a concept most from SA can grasp. nah, Luigi...$50 not bad at all when you consider how much spay/neuter can cost. did you get one? :) if so whatcha get? :)

Luigi, did you adopt one (I hope)?

@ Ruger1: i was just there yesterday and their are currently only about 3 or 4 (dogs/puppies) for $25.00, they are labled "designer dogs"...the rest are $50.00 (still not bad.
