Homeless man dies after getting struck by vehicle

SAN ANTONIO -- A man died early Saturday after police say he was struck by a car as he was trying to walk across Loop 410, officials said.

According to police, the victim was trying to cross the main lanes of NW Loop 410 from north to south around 2:30 a.m. when the accident occurred.

Authorities said a Pontiac Sunfire was traveling west on the main lanes of Loop 410 in the far right lane when the vehicle in front of it swerved to the right to avoid the man.

Police tell News 4 San Antonio the driver of the Pontiac struck the man who was pronounced dead at the scene.

As of Saturday afternoon, the Medical Examiner’s Office had not been able to release the man’s identity.

Officers on the scene of the accident said they believed the man was homeless. No criminal charges are pending.

He has a large family and many friends. And he has a young son who is taking his death pretty hard.

He was not homeless. We knew him and many people loved him.
