SAN ANTONIO -- What began as an assault report on the Northeast Side led San Antonio police on a high speed chase into Downtown.

Police were called out for an assault on the Northeast side and ended up chasing a man all the way into the Downtown area.  It started at the 2000 block of N.W. Loop 410 around 3:30 Sunday morning. Police saw the man driving away from the location where he had just assaulted a woman.  Officers tried to stop the vehicle but the man led them on a chase that got up to 95 miles per hour and lasted a little over an hour.  S.A.P.D.'s Blue Eagle helicopter located the suspect trying to break into an apartment at the 600 block of Locust and police arrested him.

The man is facing charges of assault, felony evading arrest, and burglary.
