SAN ANTONIO - It was a terrifying scene downtown when a street side brawl turned into a gun battle. Police are investigating a shooting outside a hospital that left one person hurt.
It happened right outside the front door of the Children's Hospital of San Antonio in the middle of the street, and it took place in broad daylight in front of several witnesses. Investigators say it all started as a fight near Frio Street and W. Houston shortly before 2pm. The fight moved a few blocks down the street to West Houston and San Saba.
“I just heard the shots and wondered what happened, and I saw the vehicle picking up the guy and took off,” said witness Jerry Longoria. “What did it sound like? Two pops and that was it.”
During the fight, someone inside a white van pulled out a gun and fired shots, hitting one person.
The victim was shot in the hip, and then taken to a hospital.
Police shut down the surrounding streets for about an hour while they interviewed witnesses and canvassed the crime scene. Police are looking for two men who took off in a white minivan. They say the gunman and the victim know each other.
