SAN ANTONIO- Funeral services have been set for a Texas Department of Public Safety officer who died in the line of duty in San Antonio. Sixty-seven year old Sergeant Paul Hernandez died Thursday after he collapsed during a physical readiness test.
Hernandez was stationed in Universal City and most recently worked for the highway patrol division. During his nearly 36 years as a DPS officer, he also served in the driver's license division, and criminal investigations division.
Funeral services will be held in the Dallas area. A visitation for the general public will take place Monday morning starting at 11a.m. at Charles W. Smith and Sons Funeral Home in Sachse, Texas. Funeral services will then take place on Tuesday at 11 a.m. at First Rowlett United Methodist Church in Rowlett. A burial will follow at Lakeview Cemetery in Lavon.
Sergeant Hernandez is the 88th DPS officer to die in the line of duty. He leaves behind his wife Vera and a son.
