SAN ANTONIO - Five small children under the age of eight, and their parents, were rushed to the hospital after a tire blew out on their SUV and caused it to flip over.

The crash happened just after eleven Sunday morning as the family was headed west on I-10 between Fair Oaks Parkway and Ralph Fair Road.

Sheriff's investigators say the driver lost control as the tire unraveled. The vehicle flipped several times and came to a stop in the median. No other vehicles were involved.

“While all the passengers in the vehicle did have their restraints on, one child, a four-year-old female was ejected from the car,” said Paul Berry of the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office.

The child was alert and responsive, and was flown to University Hospital by Airlife. The other family members had minor injuries and were also taken to University Hospital.
