SAN ANTONIO- San Antonio police are investigating a shooting on the city's far northwest side where they say a man was shot just moments after forcing his way into a home.

It happened shortly after two thirty Sunday afternoon on the 8000 block of Hausman Road.

Witnesses told police a 21-year old man was visiting with two others at the nearby Madera Apartments when he suddenly took off running to an elderly couple’s house next door.

According to police the man exchanged words with the woman in the yard and then she ran inside to let her husband know about the incident. That’s when the man forced his way inside.

Sergeant Steven Lovelady said, “The suspect lunged towards him and to defend himself the 69-year old man shot the 21-year old suspect”.

The suspect was hit three times in the chest. He was taken to University Hospital in grave condition. He faces burglary assault charges.

Officers say the elderly man was roughed up a bit during a scuffle with the suspect, but both he and his wife are otherwise okay.

Was he shot in the back? Seems that would make a difference.

@UT ALUM, this 19 year old took matters into his own hands when he went to the homeowners house uninvited yet, it's not acceptable for the homeowner to take action to protect himself? Sure, you can call the police and by the time they get there, it may be too late. The bottom line is, this 19 year old was in the wrong and what will be interesting to know is why he acted that way. Maybe his friend/relative may know more as to his odd behavior than what they are telling police? Prayers to both families.

All of these posts saying how sweet and innocent this intruder was are just riding on the back of that poor child Trayvon. And if making good grades and playing football is a pass, Ted Bundy and Rae Carruth would be on the street today.

@UT ALUM, How racism and discrimination can be brought into this isn't that clear to me. Seems that if you force your way into a home that is not yours you should have the idea somewhere in your head that you may be taken out in a body bag. Doesn't really matter what color you are, lead projectiles don't discriminate. Also, the only one stating he was shot in the back was one of the previous posters who you seemed to agree with. All other reports say he was shot in the upper body/chest. If you know something different then you should let the police know and file a formal report to substantiate your claim, if you can't or won't then keep your "facts" to yourself since you are too busy to really get involved or wait for the autopsy report from the hospital. On a side note, guess he won't be charged with attempted burglary or assault now.

It really is sad to see all these comments. Obviously everyone except for the last two people that comment dont have any good sense. This young man was a 19-yr old sophmore at UT in Austin. He was a straight A student. It is sad that the whole story hasn't come out and that Erick wont be able to tell his side because he was shot and killed. Clearly this is a case of racial profiling. All young minorities aren't trying to hurt you. I hope this elderly people suffer worse than this young man's parents. They have lived their lived but have robbed this young man of his. his parent will not be able to see him graduate from UT, be successful or have a family of his own but instead have to bury their own child. Its sad that people resort to violence to solve their issues. All they had to do was close their door and call the police, NOT take matters into their own hand. Before you resort to name calling, evaluate yourself! Y'all are truly examples as to why this country is the way it is. Racism and Discrimination isn't dead...it is worse. I will continue to pray for this young man's family, especially his parents who now are faced with the task of burying their son. This story is soo sad and I hope the truth come out even though I am sure it wont. :(

At 19 years of age you are no longer a child in the eyes of the law. At 17 years of ag you are responsible as an adult for criminal behaviors, and at 18 years of age you are accountable for civil issues as you are no considered an adult. My sympathy goes out to the family of this young man, but when you get into a confrontation with another person you never know what to expect. You are throwing the dice as to whether this other person is going to be easy prey. Again I feel sorry for the family of this young man, but had the homeowner not been armed there is always the possibility that the coroner would have been removing the elderly couple from the residence in body bags. It will be interesting to see what the toxicology screen has to say. Alcohol and or drugs have made many a church going honor student fall astray.

I have to say something to all these horrible comments! This CHILD DIED FROM THIS! And the details of this story are not all accurate! Don't believe everything the police told the media because the only side being told is the person who shot and killed this 19 old! This child was a man of God,a college star foot ball player with a 4.0 GPA who has never been in trouble a day in his life and the reasons are not yet known as to why or if the homeowner was even approached! So before you go and say evil things about this CHILD YOU DO NOT KNOW, learn the facts first which are not present, the CHILD WAS SHOT IN THE BACK, SO WHAT DOES THAT TELL YOU! The ones who are saying things like dig a hole and other horrible things what if this was YOUR child or your nephew? How would you feel??This is the type of behavior that can be expected by society? If so we have a big problem! Those perfect here without sin, cast the first stone In the name of Jesus...

Texans are independent thinkers & doers. Tomorrow get out & vote in your primary. Boost Newt's numbers. Show GOP elites, Mittens & America that you want a real pro-gun rights CONSERVATIVE. Newt is on all ballots: www.co.fort-bend.tx.us/upload/images/elections_administration/sample_ballots/P5121001REP.pdf Romney is am anti gun-ownership moderate/liberal worse than Bush-41, Dole & McCain, he will lose and we CANNOT afford 4 more years of Obama! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fGAhiVutAx4&feature=youtu.be Texas Congressman Ron Paul is picking up delegates in every state convention and Mitt does NOT have 1,144 to secure the nomination. This will be an open convention, as GOP rules mandate. Send Newt to the Con in Tampa at the end of August so we can nominate a true leader who has balanced budgets, cut taxes, reformed entitlements and can actually out-debate and DEFEAT Obama in November. VOTE NEWT 2012! God bless Texas! https://www.facebook.com/groups/263283260435211/
