SAN ANTONIO -- Emergency officials responded to the scene of a vehicle which slammed into the lobby of a Subway restaurant on the city's west side Saturday afternoon.

Early reports from the scene indicate that the elderly man driving the car may have inadvertently stepped on the gas when he meant to hit the brakes.

Officials tell News 4 that no one inside the building was injured as the man's car made its way all the way through the lobby of the restaurant located in the 300 Block of Valley Hi Drive.

My thoughts...As a driver I think it would be fair for the State to say 'All drivers that reach the age of ?? MUST take a short driving test yearly to be able to maintain their license.' The plus side of this for these seniors is that their licenses would be free. I think if there was this kind of incentive given that more seniors would be more than happy to prove they could still drive safely. They could re-test after passing a written test, and have a physical release from their Dr, and pass the eye exam and another driving test. Those on this classification would be tested every six months and after just one failure not be allowed to drive again. But then either taxi or bus service for them would be free or paid for by other means. One thing that every one dislikes and that's being dependent on others for things you could still do, if you could just get there and back. I drove commercial trucks for a living and would have no issues of following something like this.

With all the texters, drunks, and old folks who don't remember which pedal is for what, it amazes me we don't have more deaths than we do.
