SAN ANTONIO-- Police are looking for a man who they say robbed a couple at gunpoint Tuesday afternoon.

Investigators said the couple thought the man was interested in buying their 2004 Nissan Murano SUV.

The victim told News 4 WOAI she posted an ad for the Murano on Craigslist, and a buyer was very interested in the vehicle.

The couple got in the car with the potential buyer and drove to an apartment near Rampart street. He told the couple he need to pick up the rest of the money for the Murano at his sister's house.

Instead, the victim said the man pulled out a gun and forced them out of the car. She said he threatened to kill them if they did not cooperate.

The man made off with the SUV, her purse and cell phone. "Just the way it unfolded it couldn't have been stopped, " said Matthew Porter with SAPD.

Officer Porter said when meeting an online buyer or seller it's a good idea to take someone with you, and meet in a busy place.

Anyone with information in this case is urged to call Crime Stoppers at 224-STOP.

Once caught the suspect will be charged with two counts of aggravated robbery.

NEVER use Craigslist! Come folks- are we THAT naive? Craigslist would have been safe in the society of 60 years ago. NOW? Don't even think about it.

Beginning of the meeting, ask to snap a picture of his Drivers license on your mobile phone and say, I'm just going to send this to my home email, you know, just a precaution. This works.

Your comments make sense, but you're missing one very big point: the test drive. Would you buy a car without test driving it first? Especially a used car from somebody you don't know? So your choices are to either let the potential buyer test drive it by themselves, and risk them not returning, or go with them, and risk getting a gun held to your head while they steal your car anyway. Either way, there's a whole lot of reasons I won't sell my car privately. I'll take the financial hit of taking it to a dealership because it's just safer that way.

Exactly... either a police sub-station or a very public place. Not only that, but don't bring the dude along with you to go get the rest of the money. Let him go get it himself, why do you need to go with them? Red Flags should have gone up.

Another Craigslist encounter gone bad. You meet the interested party in front of the police station and let him see the car. If he's interested you tell him to arrange the funding and meet him back at the police station to exchange money for merchandise (cash only). He'll never show in the first place if he's not legit.
