AMEN! Seeker1970..and fedupwiththbs...are you kidding me..Precinct 3 has been running scams in the precinct for a few years now!! They leave all of the crime up to the Jones Maltsberger SAPD Substation, they go after the gravy money, even arresting kids driving to school with their windows down playing music. Again READ THIS: Texas's Transportation Code TITLE 7. VEHICLES AND TRAFFIC SUBTITLE I. FORCEMENT OF TRAFFIC LAWS CHAPTER 720. MISCELLANEOUS PROVISIONS Sec. 720.002. PROHIBITION ON TRAFFIC-OFFENSE QUOTAS

billhater All traffic fines are to go to the State of Texas. What these clowns do is get you to go for defensive driving. They charge you over $100 bucks to pay court costs. Then that money stays in the Constables account. They could really care less about us anyway. City could care less because they don't have to spend the money for the police. More money to change names on streets and build bicycle lanes.

The officer said the go to county roads, true but not true. They are on all city of San Antonio streets. They even drive motorcycles with regular license plates with Police signage on them. Wolff must be happy his boys are bringing in the money. Just curios what Vodjovic did with the missing money and cocaine. Glad I can vote against him on Tuesday!!!

Did you guys notice all the cops on the road on Nov. 1st? New month means time to hit it hard at first so you can just cruise at the end.

fedupwiththebs, these officers are deputy constables, who, while they are licensced peace officers are constables. not Texas State Troopers who focus primarily on traffic, or the SAPD traffic unit which focuses primarily on traffic as well as DWI. I believe their primary focus is to serve process. They are licensed peace officers though, and can write traffic citations.

What people dont see is these officers are scared for their jobs because of this man wanting revenue. I think that's what its trying to point out. Its also a class a misdemeanor to set a quota. Its to protect citizen safety and officers alike. You cant be safe if you are scared about possibly losing your job, and you cant be safe on the road if you are worried about numbers.

This is nothing new. Heck a lot of departments have a "system" that should be illegal. Look at Selma PD. You get 2 points for every traffic stop and 4 if you write a citation. Meanwhile if you catch a burglar you get a few points but are stuck all day doing the paperwork. You can exceed that number with traffic citations easily. That is why you see Selma PD on I-35 rather than patrolling. If you don't get enough points you can be placed back on the night shift or never get promoted.

In all of this you need to realize, police are doing their jobs these officers writing tickets are TRAFFIC OFFICERS, that's their job. Patrol officers go to calls about crimes, vice handles prostitution, civil gives out "citation" from the court such as evictions, and a whole slew of other positions, with people doing what they are paid to do. I do agree more people should carry guns because the cops aren't posted in our front yard. I believe there was a cop in the apartments at UTSA for the first shooting, that is who the kid ran to, check your facts. And if you don't think cops get drug dealers and smugglers of the human variety through traffic stops you didn't watch the news on the Sherrifs deputy that got that guy off I35 not to long ago. I'm not saying they are infallible, but do you get mad at the cook when your waiter brings you a sprite instead of a coke?

I have noticed a tremendous increase in the presence of Precinct III deputy constables in the district. Last week two were working along with a SAPD traffic officer on a motorcylce in front of Garner Middle School and St. Pius X on Harry Wurzbach. I personally do not have a problem with them working traffic. I wish they would start saturating loop 410 from Blanco to Perrin Beitel from 2100 hours to 0200 hours on a regular basis. They would need a chartered via bus to transport all of the DUI and DWI suspects. As was previously stated, the mandate of a quota system is against the law. The utilization of a quota system removes the discretionary function of the officer. In my personal experience officers have been very fair with me. I last received a ticket in 2008. I have been pulled over twice since then, but was issued warnings. All three officers were very courteous and professional. Just a thought, but the Precinct III deputy constable who died about a year ago out near Lockhill-Selma might have been a bit overzealous in initiating a pursuit, and paid the ultimate price. Qoutas put too much pressure on officers. A sergeant telling officers that I need you to get agressive on traffic is not the same as a quota and a score card being kept by administrative staff. From the municipal side, citations do generate income, even if only 35% pay, and money drives the bulldog and pays the light bill.
