Cats shot with pellet gun in historic neighborhood

@CAROLINE - If you find me taking a crap in your flower boxes, feel free to shoot me with a bb gun.

At large domestic and feral cats are perfectly acceptable targets in an urban area IF you are using a pellet gun. Head shots are obviously very effective and dramatic, however, sometimes a gut shot works well also because the cat runs off to die somewhere else and you don't have to mess with the carcass. Tens of millions of migratory birds are murdered each year by cats in the US. (look it up). The way I see it, birds are more important than cats. In order for the WILD migratory and native birds to survive, the non-native, invasive cats must be controlled and or destroyed. I would really enjoy hearing one of you cat-loving ass-clowns make a moral and ethical argument contrary to mine.

It's really sad and disturbing that most of the people on here are condoning the offending individuals actions. If I don't like you and what you do, can I shoot you with a BB gun? By the way, this is what builds up to a serial killer, abusing animals. If you think this is ok that means you are sick in the head too!!! Just the facts folks!

I'm not seeing a lot of stray cats over here off W. Hausman. Must have something to do with the few red tailed hawks and various foxes I've seen about? Remember pet owners (me), Mother Nature can be 'cruel' to your critters too.

I spoke with a lady from Animal Care Services a few weeks ago at our neighborhood association meeting. She clearly stated that it is not illegal to let a cat run free in the neighborhood. She also stated its always been that way, which I know is not true. Several years ago, I had trapped a cat that my neighbor had been feeding. When ACS showed up to pick it up, she came running out to say it was hers. She got slapped with a $200 fine for letting "her" cat run free. I don't like the idea of animal cruelty, but I also don't like the idea of a dozen stray cats using my landscaping as their litter box. Trapping no longer does any good as ACS will only "fix" them and release them back into my neighborhood so they can keep on stinking up my doorstep, aggravating my dogs, leaving footprints all over my truck... Maybe not a "pellet gun" which is actually quite powerful, but maybe a low power, "Red Ryder" type BB gun to give them a good sting and chase them off should be justifiable... as long as you don't shoot their eyes out... One thing is sure, and thats that ACS doesn't give you any options for dealing with them in a manner that protects your property.

I am currently conflicted on this one. I believe in my heart that doing harm to a cat brings on spiritual misery, from personal experience. On the other hand, my mother keeps a cat outside that she lets into the garage when it gets cold, and as it has warmed recently some toms have been roaming and attacking her cat. The first time it happened she proclaimed that she was going to hit the cat with wasp spray and I advised her against this because of my beliefs, but now these males have returned and made the old female start to limp, and mother is pissed off. My sense is that spraying a cat with wasp killer is spiritually wrong, but yet she will not let the female cat stay inside. It is a difficult situation, somewhat similar to trying to solve the budget deficit. What bothers me most about this article is that it seems to be important that someone was shooting cats in a historic neighborhood. I was not aware that there were zoning rules for pellet guns.

OMG!!! I can hardly believe all the promotion of animal cruelty being expressed by so many!!! Like cats or not, there's no excuse for promoting such horror on another living creature. To Humanity, San Antonio City Ordiance reads as follows: Sec. 5-1. - Definitions Animal shall mean any living vertebrate or invertebrate, domestic or wild, not including man. Sec. 5-19. - Leash and pooper scooper required" An animal owner or keeper shall not walk an animal without a leash restraint, and shall not guide or take animals onto the yards or driveways of property not owned, leased or occupied by the animal owner for the purpose of allowing the animal to defecate, but shall keep the animal in the public right-of-way, and shall carry a container and implement for the sanitary removal of the animal's fecal matter from the public sidewalk and public right-of-way adjacent to any property with a structure or other improvements thereon.

.....as long as I don't catch the "Cat Scratch Fever"....it's 50/50 in my book...cat's do keep Field Mice & Snakes away....but also mess in Flower Beds & leave foot prints on my Truck....reckon just try and be a good neighbor......would never shoot one....but hey,can't say I never let my Dogs out when one was in my yard.....Good Dog.....Smelly Cat...

It is not illegal to allow a cat to roam outside. There are no leash laws for cats either. Read up on the law before anyone condones acts of violence against any person or animal. It's disgusting to see many on here giving KUDOS to spreading more violence in this sick world. No dignity and respect for a life.
