SAN ANTONIO - We've now uncovered the names of two City of San Antonio building inspectors who are the target of an on-going bribery investigation.

One of the inspectors in trouble is Ernest A. Martinez, a building inspection supervisor and a ten year veteran of the city's planning and development department.

The other is George Moreno, a senior electrical inspector.

Both resigned last November after the city took steps to fire them after investigating a complaint they accepted bribes from contractors in exchange for approving work they did not inspect.

News Four WOAI Trouble Shooter Brian Collister tracked down Moreno at his downtown home and asked if the allegation is true.

“Did you do what they are accusing you of doing,” Collister asked.

George Moreno answered, “I don't know what they are accusing me of.”

Collister replied, “They're causing you of taking bribes.”

“That's not right,” Moreno told the reporter.

“That's not right - Meaning you didn't do it,” Collister clarified.

“Right,” Moreno said.

As for the other inspector, Ernest Martinez, we were unable to reach him.

There are still two more inspectors who are also being investigated, but they remain on the job at this time.

The criminal case is still being reviewed by the San Antonio Special Crimes Division and has not yet been forwarded to the district attorney's office.

If the developers that were bribing the inspectors aren't brought out of the closet then both this TV station and the city is doing the public a giant disservice. I wouldn't be surprised if these dirty inspectors are tied to Mauro Padilla and all of his defective properties and lawsuits!

These guy's are the "little fish" in the murky pond that is the SA City Council and it's so called public services. And there is more going on, these two just happen to be stupid greedy fall guys. A quick resignation a slap on the wrist, someone else's brother in law get's hired and business as usual.

DYTYLER, what is your point? What are you trying to say??????? My point is simply this... whenever someone does something good, we don't hear anyone wanting to know what color they are, or what race they are, or what ethnic background they have. However, when someone does something bad... the racist remarks starting bouncing around. I a merely stating keep to the facts of the story. Why is it necessary to bash the race or ethnic background? Keep those comments out.... There isn't a perfect color, race, or ethnic person. We don't need to bash sur names period. Can you do understand that? Again, if anyone doesn't like this multi-culture country.. pack your bags and move to Mars...

no one offered any bribes,it was either pay up or no permit.this happened to me in 2000 in Laredo, wanted to open one of my stores down there and the squeeze was put on me from day one so went to Waco instead, best move i ever made

Brian, why don't you track down and interview those who offered the bribes. If Ernest and George are going to be charged and prosecuted with Bribery, the ones who offered the Bribes should also be charged and prosecuted.

From reading these comments I would think all of the people in this departmet are bad. It is not true. Please do not let a few bad ones influence your thinking on all of them. Most are hard working, honest people who do a great job for us, the people of San Antonio. We should be asking why the people who paid the bribes are not up on charges as well.

Bribery goes on everywhere and everyday, it's not right and one's integrity is jeopardized, not to mention it gives the employer a BLACKEYE. I believe that if you are willing to expose and prosecute those who take bribes, you should also expose and prosecute those who offer bribes, the ODASITY! I know that city employees have a high level of exposure and are scrutinized at a higher level, but we really do need to go after those with the same zeal that offer the bribes. My heart is heavy to hear about Ernest and George. My prayers go out to them both and their families and all those that are involved. Brian Collester, please expose those who offered the bribes!

To any of you complaining about something, an old work horse who lived in Kirby, /tx. passed away, he fought for anyone who was against peoples rights in Kirby, his name was W.R.Lee. A Bull Dog in a mans body, fight for your rights, and against anyone who steals from your city or takes your rights away from you. He was quite a charactor, but I considered him a friend. Character is what is lacking in many of san antonios offices. Anyone can complain from dusk to dawn, but unless they are willing to really do anything about what they are complainig about, they are just overlooked at not listened to. So if the next you feel like complaining about something that is wrong and can be proven wrong by either you, someone you know and you know it is correct imformation. Do something about it instead of writing on these stupid blogs. Most people are willing to read, but do nothing. It is much easier. I leave it to you who are much younger than me and do not have heart problems. Lift a glass to wr lee tonight, I know I will..Kirby resident and soon, not to be. dlt

Not to surprize any one, the city of san antonnio is made up of mainly Spanish, the city of san antonios city inspectors and workers at the city inspectors, offices are Spanish, so what, they are willing to work,,,,,so, so what mr.savage or what ever you call yourself. I was a contractor in this city for 30 years and have seen bribe takers, money, booze and whatever you can think of. Race problems will never end anywhere until we are all grave yard dead. I think you need to go set forces up with the Sgt. M. or what ever his name is. Same old smear, and do nothing to fix a problem...It is a blurring situation, no one will do anything to aid , just to complain and make themselves look stupider than they may even be. I have had it with reading these blogs written by totally idiotic people. Bye Bye.dlt
