BOERNE, Texas -- DPS Troopers have arrested a man in connection with a deadly hit and run accident that killed a cyclist Thursday evening. 64-year-old Joseph Thomas Gabay is charged with failure to stop and render aid involving death, for the death of 68-year-old Dr. Larry Becker.

Trooper Jason Reyes says Gabay confessed Monday afternoon and said he "didn't know what he hit." Reyes says a paint transfer from Becker's bike was on Gabay's red Dodge Ram truck. The truck also had damage to the right side and windshield. Dr. Becker was riding on the IH 10 access road at about 7 p.m. Thursday evening when he was hit. Reyes said Gabay contacted investigators and wanted to talk about the accident.

Becker's widow Dorothy Becker said she knew something was wrong when he didn't return home from his ride. No one witnessed the accident and Dorothy Becker tearfully begged for information Friday afternoon.

Kendall County Crime Stoppers was offering up to $25,000 for information leading to an arrest or conviction. Gabay's bond was recommended to be set at $50,000.

I would have to agree with Brother Roberto that the cyclists should be able to drive with the cars any time they want and the cars should not be allowed to run over them. The car drivers should pay attention and share the road with the bicyclists and if they have to slow down from 55 to 20 on the access road of Loop 1604 to avoid flattening a few of them, they should. Also I believe a special headstone should be made for bicyclists who are run over in order that we may know of their bravery in dealing with cars. They could be made up in what ever number may be necessary in advance. Planning ahead is always a good idea.

$50K bail for killing someone. Seems light to me. As for cyclists on the road holding you motorists up, get a life. BTW, this being Texas, remember some of us guys in Spandex are carrying. Get the message?

Some of these comments are quite cruel and betray fascist and unchristian tendencies. If people who want to ride bicycles want to ride around with cars driven by the kind of people you see driving around San Antonio while they text and look for a better radio station while eating a chicken leg, then who are we to say they can't? Just because you want to live to be 85 doesn't necessarily mean everyone wants to live to be 85. Many people who are anxious to get to Heaven ride around in traffic on bicycles, as is their right. Some people seem to think they will just live forever if they are just safe. Well, I've got news- we are all food for worms. The only difference is that Christians, like me, will go to Heaven and the rest will go on to Hell. Life is short and then you die. Where you spend eternity is what is important.

Please stop making this a racist thing. I'm just happy the man turned himself in. Justice will be served. In the mean time pray for the Becker family.

At least the doctor's widow will have some closure. My prayers to the family. May he rest in peace. Unlike so many hit and run incidents, at least this guy was man enough to come forward and turn himself in. That's more than I can say for the other ones we've read about who were either caught and arrested later or haven't been caught yet.

He probably contacted investigators AFTER he sobered up... just guessing here. I mean how the hell else do you explain hitting someone riding a bike at 7 PM and not knowing what you hit? There is still plenty of light at that time of day in the summer.

@OMGBBQ sounds like you are turning into an anti/support Obama/Hispanic thread.

Well Scouts Out, I don't use the term Hispanic for myself, but I am Mexican-American (I have dual citizenship). I would not vote for Obama if he tried to pay me... I had to use the term white, as many people refer to it the skin tone, rather than race (pendejos).. Hispanics are white race(except for the black ones, lol)... go get another coffee, i'm doing that right now

@ OMGBBQ, before posting a stupid comment why don't try asking for some facts first, I am hispanic and not a Obama supporter, I can't stand the guy, I'm just fed up with igorant people making anti- hispanic comments

Scouts Out - if this guys name was MCampaRamos, you and the rest of the white power WOAI users would be here posting to deport him/her... and this conversation would turn into an anti-Hispanic-Mexican-Obama thread.
