It seems a lot of folks are confusing the terms Republican with Conservative. stuckiniraq05 & roadhog: Ya'll sound less Liberal and more Libertarian. Personal freedom over State controls (weed/drugs, guns, etc). Don't get me wrong, I have no compunction to lead you away from whatever party with which you choose to affiliate, but you sound more like Libertarians. I too lean heavily towards the Libertarian viewpoint. The closest party I see to that, however, is Republican. Yes, I totally agree that they have their flaws and warts, but they angle more my direction than Democrats. If there were enough folks willing to step up and VOTE Libertarian, I feel fairly certain that ya'll may vote my way. Your life is between you and God. Government needn't be involved, except in defense of that ideal.

When someone places himself in a certain category by his own declaration, I generally accept that at face value. Perhaps I have jumped to conclusions. When someone says he is gay, I automatically assume he is a homosexual, but that is not really what gay means. When someone says they are a liberal, I assume they mean they support the general direction of other people who call themselves liberals these days. That is also a misused word. Perhaps you are a real liberal. Liberalism is a concept that grew out of the Reformation, the Enlightenment and the Age of Reason. This was a time when people discovered that they did not have to tolerate central command and control over their lives. Liberals proposed that the government that governed best, governed least. Liberals proposed decentralized government. Liberals proposed downsized government with the people making their own decisions over their own lives. Liberals proposed that government had no business in the day to day lives of the citizens. These are real liberal concepts according to the definition of liberalism. People who call themselves liberal these days don't seem to believe any of those things. In fact, they seem to believe the exact opposite. Actual liberals want to limit government. I am a liberal. Are you the same kind of liberal I am, the kind that wrote the Constitution and set up a liberal government, or are you that other kind?

@USMC 7321, have you not kept up with the news at all? Obama has been trying to take away firearms for the past 6 months or so. Have you not read into the UN treaty? Also, he's already put bans on certain shipment on firearms. For example, you can't get old Mosin Nagants shipped whole anymore. Please don't say something before you know what you're talking about.

@ Stuckiniraq. Amen brother! I think part of the replican issues these days is mis-focusing its priorities (and just making stuff up). Obama hasn't event touched on gun legislation and probably never will because he is too wrapped up in health care reform. Romney on the other hand.....not true. Signed Assult weapons ban in Mass. (FYI-the AR-15 is the most purchased rifle in the US). The NRA (which I am a member) is so concerned about getting a republican victory. So much so, they forget what the NRA is all about. They have been spewing BS left and right (as a member: I get the publications, emails, etc too. I am a liberal, I believe in a choice. And before you chastize me for beliving in "choice", I am a single father raising a little girl. See (we/I) had a choice and we made the one that fit for us. Just because you have a choice doesn't mean its going to be wrong. I believe in the rights of gay persons (I'm not one but....). Unlike a lot of people who have never served but lay claim to being patriotic (its easy to monday morning quarter back it when you know you won't get sacked). @ Butterfly, I thank you for your appreciation. But yeah, I am a liberal. I have personally purchased 4 firearms in the last year and applied for Class III items. So how is it that "me" and my political party are banging down your door and taking your weapons? I also have a CCW to. And avidly carry. And yes ma'am, I have placed a guy (stomping on his girlfriends head) under citizen's arrest and detained him until the police could arrive (didn't have a republican in sight). It would be nice if people would just think about what they are saying before they lump everyone together and make over zealous comments.
