I just lost my 2-year old dog. She had been ill and we were in the vets office 3 of the last 4 days she was alive. We knew she was ill. After she passed, we requested a necropsy from a third party that we paid for. The result was our vet calling to tell us the cause was a linear object that had become lodged in her digestive tract and had an accordion effect on her intestines. This eventually killed her. We have always gone to this vet since moving to our city. We have 3 other pets and want to know if our vet should have caught this. She was dehydrated and required antibiotics during her vet visits. Should we be seeing another veterinarian?

One of Oprah's famous puppies choked to death on a ball. I only got my dog chewy bones to gnaw. Hopefully companies improve the products or stop making them if they can't.

Sorry my friend. I cant imagine how you feel. I have 3 dogs and they live up to the phase man's best friend. They mean the world to me. Dogs love you even when you make mistakes.

My dog got a hold of fuel mix in the plastic bottles they come in and managed to puncture them while chewing on them. I know he ingested some of the product. Fortunately no apparent ill effects. Only problem now is that when he barks, he sounds like a chain saw.

we stopped ginving our dog toys with rope because we caught her chewing off the rope and we were afraid that she would swallow it. glad we did.

The same thing happened to my Chocolate lab, only he was 4 years old. We felt helpless not knowing what was wrong with him. We took him to the vet and they thought it was something else. He had a follow-up appt, but died the night before his appt.

Puppy teeth are super sharp and they say specifically on most toys don't let your puppy play with them if the manufacturer's feel that a puppy will eat through a toy. I know when my dog was a puppy we stuck with rawhides and soft plush toys because her teeth were just tearing through toys. Even now as a healthy adult dog we check her toys while playing with them to make sure they aren't fraying and coming apart so she doesn't ingest something. Just like kids toys, people should be aware of what they give to their dog. I feel for her loss and hopefully more people will learn from this and be a bit more vigilant about what they give to their animals as toys.

I actually had this problem with one of my cats and a cat-tree. There was thick rope would around a pillar for a scratching post. However, one of my cats took to EATING the shed pieces of rope strands. He was constantly vomiting and having other gastrointestinal problems. I finally had to remove the cat tree when I found him eating the rope. I think a lot of pet owners over all think rope in that way is a harmless toy, but we don't tend to think about them EATING it (usually it seems too thick to eat), but those strands are easily eaten.
