SAN ANTONIO -- Tim Archuleta, 42, was arrested Thursday afternoon on charges of serious bodily injury to his three adoptive children. The children, an 8-year-old boy and two 10-year-old twins were adopted by Tim Archuleta and his wife, Iliana back in February of 2011.

Iliana Archuleta, 40, and her nephew Rogelio Archuleta, 26, were arrested last month in the case. Iliana owns the Honey Tree Preschool and Child Development Center.

According to an arrest warrant affidavit, one of the children told investigators that Iliana and Rogelio beat and starved all three of them. They also said the pair forced the children to bite each other and eat whole sticks of butter. The warrant also stated the children were allegedly forced to sleep in a bathtub or in a locked closet. According to the warrant, one of the children told investigators Tim would hit them on the buttocks with a backscratcher. The document also states the adoptive father knew the children were eating butter sticks, because one child told police, "he would watch us."

"Whenever you have not only a parent or adult in that home, and they're witnessing these kinds of things, they need to put a stop to it immediately," said Lou Antu, spokesman with the Bexar County Sheriff's Department. "He apparently did nothing of it."

All three adoptive children remain in state custody.

FDNY1983, with CASA once you finish their training, (and their training schedules are friendly for everyone), you get to choose your case(s). You can take a case that'll take less time or one that takes more time. Trust me, if I can do it, anyone can do it.... You'd be surprised at how little of your time it will take.

Thanks for the kind words and encouragement, Moonshine and pandalvr. I have looked into volunteering with CASA before but I dont know how i can make myself truly available with my govt job. Seeing as infertility is astronomically expensive and not guaranteed, were hoping one day we can scrounge enough money together to foot the equally high bill of adoption. If you think about it, what really makes adoption any different from human trafficking? I was in contact with Congressman Cansecos office about adoption reform but the San Antonio office never got back to me. I will likely reengage here shortly.

FDNY 1983, I so feel your pain. Spouse and I have been married 25 years, we aren't able to get pregnant and have known for the full 25 years. Was wanting to adopt but as you said, it takes mega money, and or going out of country, it also takes LOTS of intrusion from agencies even with CPS, and then when all is said and done if you go through a private agency the birth parents can always change their mind. My remedy to the pain I was having b/c we had no children? I did the next best thing, I volunteer through CASA, that's all I need now. Don't give up, don't get mad, don't get frustrated, because it's like I tell everyone, things won't happen on your time, on my time nor on society's time, it happens in God's time in addition, when you don't get what YOU want that's God's way of telling you that He has bigger, brighter and more glorious plans for you.

No fairness to it, FDNY. Saw it stated that these two got the kids two years before adopting them, so I assume "foster" maybe, and we've all read horror stories about foster parents. I also think that gay couples (no slam on them) tend to get preferential treatment, but they DO tend to often take the older kids that others won't, so, who knows. Life sucks and fairness seems to be nonexistent in so many ways in life. Hope that you can eventually achieve your dream.

What I want to know is WHERE these scumbags are getting the money to adopt children while those of us out there who REALLY want to adopt a child and provide a loving and stable home have to take out MASSIVE loans and are then scrutinized to a T. Or my favorite is how a Christian organization will deny adoption to a couple because of different religious beliefs. REALLY???? These children need a loving home, so you're going to risk potentially sending them to Godless monsters that abuse children (not saying that's the case here, specifically)over sending them to a loving family- JUST because one of the parents is Jewish, or Catholic, or Buddhist, etc, etc...

Other sources have his charges lesser than what's on here cuz they've got "by ommission" added to them. Means he's not being charged with the actual abuse in itself, but because he was aware of it and didn't report it. I don't really see the difference between the two, except maybe the kids put all the actual blame on the mom and uncle while dad let it happen. Guess it shows who wears the pants and carries the balls in that family.
