FreeHole, I don't ever go west of Uvalde and didn't realize there was a BP checkpoint between Uvalde and Bracketville. Having one 10 miles from Uvalde, as txtea said, would be about 60 miles from Del Rio, but could be to cover Hwy's 131 & 693 that run into Hwy 90 from the border. But, there is no temporary or additional checkpoint east of Uvalde, and I'm certain no chase went through Uvalde on Hwy 90!! News stories never seem to be complete or fully accurate. And, your friend is right about all the traffickers, etc. That's why there is such a large BP presence and frequent stops of trains to search them.

Well Lervia...Usually any road coming from any border city has a checkpoint at about 25 miles from the border. Anything farther than that could be a temporary or additional checkpoint. And about the news outlets...don't get me started. They stopped being information vehicles way back, to become money generators that love their $ponsor$ and despise the common folk. Also, I have a friend that was born in Carrizo Springs. She says the whole area is plagued by traffickers, and maybe that's the reason for additional checkpoints.

Ship them back to Alabama, let their taxpayer pay to house their trash.

@txtea, thanks for the info. It's been years since I was down 90 that direction and don't remember a checkpoint. It still boggles my mind about a chase through Uvalde, tho, unless the attempted secondary search was on the east side of Uvalde as a traffic type stop, not at a checkpoint (because there isn't one), when the chase started. That would make a bit of sense. Doesn't change my mind about news organizations, tho!

There is a Border Patrol checkpoint between Uvalde and Bracketville, about 10 miles west of Uvalde. Been thru it many times on the way to Del Rio.

FreeHole, at the risk of giving away too much personal information, I live out in this area. There is no BP checkpoint on the east side of town. If there is one on the west side of town (don't think so, unless it's new), these two would have had to take 90 through town and all the traffic congestion and lights to hit 90 between Uvalde and Hondo, where the chase is reported to have happened. It's more likely that they were initially stopped by BP for whatever reason (looked suspicious, it happens fairly frequently on East 90), then took off when they felt that their drugs had been detected. Border Patrol presence is strong between Uvalde and Castroville because of the railroad running along Hwy. 90. Train stops for searches are constant. There are border patrol checkpoints outside Del Rio on all major roads and highways, but not one around Uvalde that would fit into the confines of this story, given personal knowledge and traffic factors. To me, this is a prime example of today's news organizations giving us half azz & uninformed "news", and most of us don't know better unless we research or someone in the know points it out to us.

Lervia...maybe is a moving (itinerant?) checkpoint set up anywhere between Uvalde and Del Rio, for people trying to get from Acuña, Mex. To San Antonio.
