SAN ANTONIO -- Five women have been attacked on the Northwest Side in the last few weeks. Police have noticed similarities in the reported attacks and are now trying to determine if the women were all attacked by the same man.
The attacks happened between 2:00 a.m. and 7:00 a.m. in the area near IH 10 west, north of loop 410 and south of Huebner Road. The women were attacked outside their apartments or cars, and all of them told police their attacker threatened them with a gun and demanded their purses. In the reports, the man was sexually explicit and demanded they perform sexual acts. In one case, he held a woman to the ground by her neck then sexually assaulted her.
Luz Cardenas, who lives in an apartment in the area, says she has enjoyed living there because she has always felt safe. Now, she's worried and nervous.
“I've lived in this area for the past 4 years, and I've never had any problems of any kind," said Cardenas. "Maybe I should be more careful. I never really think about it. But, definitely, something to think about now.”
The victims described their attacker as a white or Latin man who is 5' 08” to 6' 00" tall. In one of the attacks, the woman described a man wearing a ski mask. Police still aren't ready to say if it's the same man.
Police are advising women to be extra cautious and be aware of their surroundings.
