SAN ANTONIO - Police are calling the scene where a newborn was murdered one of the most gruesome they have ever witnessed.

Officers were called to a home in the 300 block of Wayside around 5 a.m. Sunday. They found 3-week-old Scott Wesley Sanchez Buchholz dead inside a bedroom at the home. The newborn's mother, 33-year-old Otty Sanchez, told police she killed, decapitated, and mutilated the baby boy.

Investigators say Sanchez also stabbed herself in the chest and stomach after the murder and was rushed to University Hospital for treatment as well as around-the-clock observation. A spokeswoman at University Hospital said she couldn't release information on Sanchez's condition, but Sgt. Wes McCourt said her wounds did not appear to be life-threatening.

Sanchez told police she heard voices, and the devil made her do it.

"She mentioned that someone or something told her to do it, she was hearing voices. So that leads us to believe that she was experiencing some type of mental crisis," said Sgt. Joe Rios of the San Antonio Police Department.

Investigators took a sword, a machete, and a kitchen knife from the home.

Officers said two children and two adults who were asleep inside the home at the time of the murder were unharmed.

Sanchez is expected to be charged with capital murder.

During a news conference Monday morning, San Antonio Police Chief Bill McManus stated the department will have special counselors available for police officers who witnessed the scene of the murder.

How horrible...I've read some of the comments here and I know that after you have a baby some people experience the "blues". I have briefly but I can't even begin to understand how this woman could have done this to her child! They even give you packets from the hospital...if you have issues call 911 or even take the child to a neighbor to give u relief if you think you are going to harm your child. I hope this womans mind replays this horrific time in her mind forever so she can remember under meds or not under meds. I say give her the CHAIR!!!

Where was the father? He should be held just as responsible.

Sad but very true. Our judicial system is broken. There should be on law for every state fitting the particular crime. I am thouroughly disgusted with all the different laws for different states. This poor innocent life that was taken looked to that "demon" for love and protection. How could anyone claim the devil made them do that to a defenseless soul? Did the devil make her conceive that child. I am just thanking God that she didn't get to the other children in the home. And, I pray she burns in the deepest part of HELL!!
